Dear Parent/Caregiver,
We are saddened by the impact of this virus on various communities particularly in China, but also in Australia. We acknowledge that the situation is changing rapidly as the impact of the virus becomes more widespread. The current guidelines from the Australian Ministry of Health are as follows:

“There has been a small number of cases confirmed in NSW. All cases have travelled to Wuhan, China, or had contact with a confirmed case in China. In accordance with Nation Public Health guidelines, exclusions from School are as follows:

• Confirmed case of Novel Coronavirus – exclude medically until cleared
• Close contact of a confirmed case of Novel Coronavirus – exclude for 14 days since last contact with the confirmed case”

Our School is taking this situation seriously so as to retain confidence in the health safety of our community, and at the same time, to allow normal community involvement of as many students and adults as possible.

We are requiring that if you or your children have visited, during the school holidays, the Hubei Province of China, that you refrain from sending your child to School until they have been back in Australia for at least 14 days. During this time, you should be on alert to symptoms related to fever or other respiratory symptoms. These include a cough, shortness of breath, rapid breathing, a sore throat or a runny nose. Please visit your local GP if these symptoms are present and ensure you request a medical certificate of clearance noting that the examinations are clearing the student of Coronavirus.

If you have not visited the Hubei Province of China during the holidays you should feel confident to send your child to School unless they have any of the above symptoms, in which case, as with other viruses, you should seek medical advice and keep your child at home until the symptoms have cleared.

The School will continue to monitor the situation closely and take advice from NSW Health and the Australian Ministry of Health to ensure that we are responding to the situation appropriately. Should the medical authorities issue new guidelines or information we will provide any necessary updates. Further information and updates are available via the Australian Ministry of Health, and the NSW Health Department, which has also issued advice with regard to students returning to School. See the NSW Health Coronavirus FAQs for more information and do not hesitate to be in touch if you have any questions regarding this matter.
