Often the quality of the celebration is a reflection of the level of striving and aspiration one makes to attain a goal. This was certainly the case for two of our 2019 graduate students, Augusta Bothma and Freya Sinclair, when they were awarded their Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award. Both girls committed substantial time and effort in physical activities, learned skills, service to the community, adventurous journeys and a five day residential project.

Augusta and Freya received their awards from the Governor of NSW, Margaret Beasley AO QC. Following the presentation of their awards in St Stephen’s Church on Macquarie Street and following that a reception at Government House.

For the Gold Adventurous Journeys, Augusta trekked the magnificent and challenging Routeburn and Kepler Tracks in New Zealand, whilst Freya’s highlight was when she sea kayaked through coves, natural harbours, and small islands in and around Clayoquot Sound in Vancouver Island in Canada, whilst enjoying the spectacular coastal views. Both girls committed substantial time to community service, Augusta in working as a volunteer in a hospital café and Freya in the Air Force Cadets at the Richmond base. Currently, Augusta is at University studying Social Work whilst Freya has taken some time out to decide on her future directions.

Even though they have experienced amazing activities and the scale of their achievements are impressive, Augusta and Freya remain committed to serving their community and further developing the strength of their character. It is a pleasure to see the development of students through the influence of Pacific Hills Christian School. We extend our warmest congratulations to these two!
