Jane* Answers Her Calling to Mission Overseas

india web 01At the end of 2018, Jane* sat her HSC and graduated from Pacific Hills. Now, less than a year later, she is serving on the other side of the world in the mission field. Jane* is spending the next six months serving with an international interdenominational organisation assisting the marginalised in the name of Jesus across Asia and the Arab world.

Jane* explains the driving force behind her decision to serve,

“Midway through Year 11 I felt this overwhelming push for God calling me on mission for a six-month period. I didn’t know where to go, but I knew I needed to trust in God. After finishing school the classic question of ‘What are you doing?’ popped up and I didn’t have an answer. Painting and visually communicating things is the way I best express myself so I knew I needed to get my thoughts out on canvas.”

Jane* chose to express her journey post-high school through a beautiful artwork.

“The day after completing my final Year 12 exam I held a blank canvas. I listened and waited on God and prayed Luke 22:42 which says ‘Not my will but yours Father’. My painting slowly emerged over nine months and visually tracks my prayer and reliance on God.”

“In the middle of my painting is a black circle which represents God's good and perfect Will. You can have two amazing options in front of you that both look like really Godly decisions but the process of figuring out which is the best decision is tough. Every time I had a decision in front of me I would paint it and then again each time that decision was resolved - whether it was choosing where to enrol at university or whether to go on mission through an organisation or through the connections that I know.”

Jane* said the most recent paint strokes represent hearing a destination to cross the sea and leave her family.

“I see this painting as unfinished and this reminds me that there is more listening and waiting to come. It will only be finished when Jesus calls me home.”

Jane* has already been on mission trips through Pacific Hills where her eyes were opened to persecuted Christians. She visited girl’s hostels and leprosy hostels and felt God’s call to make disciples of all nations.

“I want to use this time to listen and learn. Having the opportunity to focus completely on being the hands and feet of Jesus in another culture. I don’t know what I’ll be doing but I’m happy to do whatever serves the gospel. It doesn’t matter what my role is because I’m part of the body of Christ.”

Please keep Jane* in your prayers - that she will be able to look, listen and love with a cross-cultural servant heart into the community, and that God would give her an unshakable reliance and dependence on Him.

“Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me”
Philippians 3:12.
