From the Principal - Term 4, Week 9, 2018

The Delights and Dangers of Christian Parenting
For our children Christmas is a very special time of the year. Indeed, that should be the case for all of us. Not for the glitz and commercial aspects, and indeed, not even for the giving and receiving of gifts but rather for the celebration of God’s greatest gift to us in the person of Jesus.

I encourage us all as a Christian community to celebrate that in the coming of Jesus, God showed His amazing grace to us to show us the way to be right with Him and to know His peace in our lives.

End of School Year
We are so thankful to God for a wonderful year of teaching, learning and serving and of great relationships between parents, students and staff as part of the community that we call Pacific Hills Christian School and New Hope School.

I trust that all School families enjoy a restful, safe and blessed time of change from normal routines. I encourage you to have a time of refreshing and reflection and to take time to care for others in special ways.

School Leadership Team (SLT) Retreat and PD week
On 16-18 January the School Leadership Teams from each of the Pacific Schools are meeting together, to consider the ways to renew our commitment to the vision we have to bring glory to God through Christian education.

Our special guest speaker on this occasion is Mr Luc Bussiere from France, who is an outstanding Christian educational philosopher and practitioner. In the days following the SLT Retreat, we have our Hope conference for the staff of all of our Schools at which Luc Bussiere will present.

Also we will have visiting us Dr Samson Makhado, the former Director of Christian Schools in Africa.

Also as visitors to the School, we are expecting Marcus and Sylvia Assmann from Austria who are establishing a strong Christian school there. They have requested time with us.

Start of Term 1, 2019
Year 1 to Year 12 students commence on Wednesday 30 January, with Prep and Kindergarten students commencing on Thursday 31 January. We look forward to welcoming all students at that time. This is also the start of our Senior Schools camps.

New Hope School
Please pray for the new enrolments for 2019 and for several new staff including a School Counsellor and Occupational Therapist.

Pacific Brook Christian School
It was wonderful to attend the School musical and the Graduation event on Monday 10 December. We are expecting an increase in enrolments of about 40% for 2019, so we are very thankful. Please pray also for our search for a new property for the School’s expansion.

Pacific Valley Christian School
On 11 December, we had an excellent Presentation evening. On that occasion, the speaker was Mrs Ros Connell who spoke at each of our events this year. Mrs Connell was very well received and was a great blessing to each of the audiences. Please pray for the new staff and additional students at PVCS.

Valley Hope School
Please pray for VHS, which will have more than double the number of enrolments from those numbers at the start of 2018. Please pray also for staff changes including the new Head Teacher, Mr Nathan Murray. We are also thankful for the return to good health of Mrs Liz Latham.

Pacific Hope School
Please pray for this school with its large number of special needs students with a number of new staff under the leadership of Mr Klaus Knobloch.

Pacific Coast Christian School
Please pray for this school as we seek additional enrolments and as we continue with our mission and service program in a strong way.

Christmas Carols
This event, on the evening of 10 December, was a wonderful occasion of community life as we remembered the true meaning of Christmas together. We are thankful for the leadership of this event by Mrs Anna Crawford. We continue to thank God for Rev Keith Baker who was the MC for this special occasion.

Staff Devotions
During the last week of school, we were blessed to begin the week with Songs of Worship organised by Mr Rob Lawler, accompanied by Mr Daniel Ferguson, Miss Rebecca Robins and Mr Scott Cousins. In addition, we enjoyed presentations by Miss Wendy Moran and Mr Scott Daniels, challenging and encouraging us to glorify God through obeying His commandment to love our enemies and to finish the year the well.

Presentation Evening
This event on 13 December was a really special time of beautiful musical presentations as well as great speeches by Mrs Ros Connell and our wonderful School Captains. It is always wonderful to celebrate the achievements by our students and staff.

Certificate Assemblies
These were great opportunities for us to acknowledge the perseverance and effort by our very committed students and wonderful staff and parents who form the community of PHCS.

It is with great sadness that I advise our School Community of the sudden, tragic passing on 17 December of Mark Bloom, the husband of one of our staff members, Mrs Wendy Bloom.

Please uphold in prayer Wendy and her children, Chris, Adrienne and Madison.
