From the Principal - Term 3, Week 7, 2017

Delights and Dangers of Christian Parenting
New starts in life
Each of us has many new starts in our lives. This can be our first step, as I witnessed with my youngest grandchild recently, our first words, our first day at school, our first day after school, and many other special moments in our lives. It is good to discuss these events with our children, particularly as they are about to occur or when they occur. At each of these times we need to be thankful to God and trust in God also as we learn to trust others and be thankful for them.

Year 12
Please continue to pray for Year 12 as they finish their 13 or 14 years of school life. Please be encouraged to participate in the activities of the final week, including the final Assembly on Thursday 21 September and the farewell through the Guard of Honour. This is very special time in the life of our School and I encourage all to attend if you are interested.

Year 11 Exams
Please pray for these students as they started their exams on Thursday of this week, and will conclude on Tuesday 19 September.

Further advice on the approach to NAPLAN by our School will be provided in the coming weeks and months. At this time our School is involved in a computerised NAPLAN assessment project, along with many other schools, as it is expected that NAPLAN in future will be online.

We continue to be blessed with a high level of enrolments so that we now have significant waiting lists on several grades. However, we continue to encourage people to put their names forward as we would like to provide Christian Education for as many students as possible.

We are very thankful for the Finance Committee and the finance staff who have spent many weeks putting together the budgets for 2018. These budgets will now go to the various Boards for their approval.

We are thankful for the safe return of Dr Fyson and Miss Francis, who had a wonderful time teaching Christian Educators in Sri Lanka.

Staff Devotions
This week our staff have had the pleasure to learn from Dr Cedric Gibbs, Patron of Missions at Pacific Hills.

New Hope School (NHS)
We are really thankful for the effort and the kindness of our NHS students and staff, in operating a Smoothie store over the last few weeks.

Pacific Valley Christian School (VCS) and Valley Hope School (VHS)
Please continue to pray for these schools at Maclean with significant new enrolments expected and with new buildings being established.

Pacific Coast Christian School (PCCS) and Pacific Hope School (PHS)
Please pray for these schools with building projects in place and with additional students and with new staff to be appointed.

Andrew Waters to Poland
Please pray for Mr Andrew Waters, one of our Assistant Principals, as he works with Team Ranch in Poland from the 8-20 September. Mr Waters will be helping establish facilities for the youth of Poland and we pray that the Gospel can be shared with them through serving them.

Dianne Dowson and Kirsty Otten in New Zealand
We are thankful for the safe return of Mrs Dianne Dowson, Director of New Hope School and Mrs Kirsty Otten, Coordinator of Special Education at PHCS. They had a wonderful time at Bethlehem College, KingsWay School and Middleton Grange School, and we are sure they will bring much blessing back to our Schools here. We are very thankful for the fellowship we have in Christian Education with those that have a common spirit and purpose to glorify God.

Annual Schools Conference, Harare
We are thankful for Mr Brian and Mrs Maureen Cox who spoke at the Annual Schools Conference in Harare. Mr Cox is a highly experienced Christian Educator who has been a great blessing to us and many others.

Teacher Exchange with Austrian Christian School
One of our Junior School staff Miss Brittany Walker and one of our Junior School staff from PCCS, Mrs Laura Haas will be spending three weeks in Term 4 in a Christian School in Vienna, Austria. We will have at each of our schools, a teacher from that same school. Please pray for them in those situations.

This week I met with Mr Grahame Murphy, Patron of Outdoor Education and Mr Nathan Parkin, School Parent and Board Treasurer.

Resources Planning Committee (RPC)
On Monday 4 September Mr Paul Watkins, chaired our RPC meeting, looking at the future Masterplanning of our site. At this stage we are looking at three companies from which we will be selecting one company to do this work in the next few months.

Bali Roundtable
From 6-8 September I have been privileged to attend the Asia Pacific Roundtable of Christian School leaders. Please pray for this organisation, as together we serve thousands of Christian Schools in the region.
