2017 NAPLAN Results

2015 07 27 Trail HSC Begins 2 of 2The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is an annual national assessment for all students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. NAPLAN tests reading, writing, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy. Parents of students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 will be receiving their NAPLAN results this week. The school has received outstanding results in all areas of the NAPLAN testing.
As you may be aware, the Year 9 NAPLAN testing is an opportunity to prequalify to meet the new minimum literacy and numeracy standards for the HSC. It is important to understand that across NSW only 32% of students received Band 8 and above in all three areas at this time. While our school results are strong and many of our students have achieved Band 8 and above in some or all areas, students will be provided with several further opportunities to reach the minimum standard in Reading, Writing and Numeracy during Years 10, 11 and 12. The school is developing a program to support those students who are still working towards meeting the minimum standards.
Further information in relation to the HSC Minimum Standard is available here.

NAPLAN online testing
Federal, state and territory education ministers agreed that NAPLAN will move online from 2018, over a three year period. This means moving NAPLAN from the current paper-based tests to computer-based assessments.
In NSW, schools will be taking part in a School Readiness Test during the second half of Term 3. The school readiness test is a ‘practice run’ and provides an opportunity for schools to become familiar with the NAPLAN Online assessment platform and to identify any technical or administrative issues they may have.
Pacific Hills will take part in the School Readiness Test during Week 7 of Term 3 and will involve all students from the current Year 3, 5, 7 and 9 Year Groups. The test is not assessing a student’s ability in relation to numeracy and literacy but rather it is judging a school’s readiness to run the online tests.
The schedule for the School Readiness Test at Pacific Hills will be as follows:

  • Tuesday 5 August – Year 3
  • Wednesday 6 August – Year 5
  • Thursday 7 August – Year 7
  • Friday 8 August – Year 9

The NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) and the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) have produced large amounts of research and supporting documents for schools and parents regarding the rollout process and benefits of online testing.
