Junior School Diversity Day

2019 06 21 js diversity day 18This term Year 1 have been learning about cultural diversity and the Rights of the Child. Students have thoroughly enjoyed learning dances from other cultures, such as Zimbabwe, India, Japan and Hawaii, identifying how they are similar and different to their friends both in appearance and interests, and recognising the importance of Children’s Rights.

Students further explored the truth of being made in God’s image and how he is the creative God who made the many different languages, foods, clothes and people across the world. Some of their favourite picture books read across the term have been ‘I Am Australian Too’, ‘I Have the Right to be A Child’ and ‘Room on Our Rock’.

The students held a day to celebrate each other’s unique identity and culture in Week 8. Each student shared a plate of food from their culture and wore traditional clothing. It was wonderful to see our students celebrate Diversity Day!
