Gold, silver, bronze on the Gold Coast!

2019 05 20 cssa gold coast 01From the 20th-24th May 2019, six of our Pacific Hills students’ travelled to the Gold Coast to compete at the Christian Schools National Games.

It was an incredible experience for our students to be a part of as they joined 70 other students from Christian schools throughout New South Wales to compete in various sports against athletes from Queensland, South Australia and Victoria.

Laura Crawford and Bethany Druery, along with Coach Jaimie Mann, were a part of the NSW Christian Schools Netball Team. Both girls had a fantastic tournament, with their team earning a position in the gold medal match. They lost to South Australia by four goals in this match, however, they walked away with not only a silver medal but a great deal of experience and exposure in playing at this level.

Skye Wickham-Hill and Ellie Howard were a part of the NSW Christian Schools Girls Football Team. This team was exceptional and did not drop a game throughout the whole tournament, often winning by a considerable margin. An honourable mention to Skye who scored four goals in one game. The girls were a part of the championship winning team which won the gold medal match 6-0.

Hyeon Sousa, along with Coach Timothy Fuller, were a part of the NSW Christian Schools Boys Football Team. This team did not fail to impress and also went through the competition undefeated. A close match in the final saw the team securing the gold medal against Queensland.

Abby Middlebrook was a part of the NSW Christian Schools Girls Basketball Team. She had a superb tournament, often sinking many baskets during the round games. Her team secured a position in the bronze medal match and took out the win to bring home 3rd place.

Not only did these students get to experience excellence on the sporting field, they also got the chance to make lifelong friends with other athletes from across Australia. Social outings to Sea World, Paradise Country and Movie World gave them an experience they will never forget.

Most importantly, our students were given the opportunity to spend a week with their team mates under God’s Word, understanding how walking with Christ can coincide with sport. They were challenged and encouraged that it is God who has blessed them with exceptional sporting talents and abilities so that they can be in their “realm” and “sporting community” for a purpose – to honour and glorify Him.
