Claire Shin Makes a Little Magic on Canvas

claire shin web 01Claire Shin, Year 5 student at Pacific Hills, is a very talented artist who won a Young Archie Prize in 2017 & in 2018 a Young Archie Honourable Mention. The Young Archie is part of the Archibald Prize, the first major portraiture prize in Australia that started in 1921. It is the most popular exhibition at the Art Gallery of NSW.

This year, there were more than 1400 entries for the Young Archie competition, with around 38% of those in Claire’s age category of 9-12 years old. Claire’s submission Magic man depicts her father, who always cheers her up and makes her laugh when she is down. Claire says that he is her ‘special person’. Claire is a sensitive and humble artist who paints with finesse. At ten years old, she is producing art well beyond her years and we are so excited to see what she creates next. God has created her to be creative and we are blessed to celebrate this achievement with her!
