Duke of Edinburgh's Award Continues to expand

2018 02 28 dofe report crop 01During 2017 the students of Pacific Hills Christian School were highly involved in completing their various Duke of Edinburgh International Awards. We had 52 students completing their Bronze Awards, 18 students completing their Silver Awards and 10 Students completed their Gold Awards.

Involvement in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award is voluntary and completed in the students' own time. The requirements for each level are…..

  • At the Bronze Level students must complete three months of physical, skills and service activities (at least one hour per week for each section) with a major section completed for six months. The students also participate in two overnight adventurous journeys.
  • At the Silver Level students must complete six months continuous of physical, skills and service activities (at least one hour per week for each section). The students also participate in two three day/two night adventurous journeys.
  • At the Gold level students must complete twelve months continuous of physical, skills and service activities (at least one hour per week for each section). The students also participate in two four day/three night adventurous journeys. For Gold, the students also must undertake a five day residential program in a different environment.

This year 44 students have commenced their Bronze award, 46 students are commencing Silver and there are some students completing their Gold Award.

Mrs O'Neil and Mr Lees are delighted that so many students who completed Bronze Level are continuing on to silver. This will result in many more students achieving the internationally recognised Gold Award, which is presented by the Governor of NSW at Government House. These students are also recorded on the Honour Board in the main foyer.

Later this year Mr Lees and Mrs O'Neil will again take the Gold Level students to complete the Milford and Routeburn Tracks in the South Island of New Zealand and there is another trip planned for 2019 to accommodate the large number of students who will complete their Silver Level in 2018.
