Year 7 camp has come and gone for another year! It was a fantastic four days of fun, laughter, challenges and growth for the grade as a whole. On the 28th Feb, all of Year 7 set out travelling south, headed for the Youthworks Waterslea site on the Shoalhaven River. As we pulled out of School, the chatter of a busload of students filled the air until it grew silent when the movie started.
The week was full of fun activities such as, billy carts, archery, abseiling, canoeing, river rafting and much more. This was topped off by three night activities; Wide Games, Campfire and the Waterslide. The Waterslide was an all-time favourite as students flew down the slope to a big splash at the end.
This however, was not the only "wet" activity thorough the week. It rained. And rained. And rained. For three days straight. Whilst this meant soggy grass, mud patches, wet clothes and wet shoes, it also meant lots of fun for everyone! Every student dealt with the weather in a mature and understandable way and it didn't stop them getting out there and giving everything a go. The challenge by choice policy allowed students to choose to push themselves, sometimes outside their comfort zones, during the group activities. This allowed them to grow as an individual whilst also being supported by their peers.
A regular part of each day was Christian Discovery. All students in the grade were challenged in their faith as they heard the gospel presented to them. It was exciting seeing discussion groups filled with questions and talking points as the students engaged with the Bible.
The goal of Year 7 Camp is to grow together as a grade, build new relationships and to have fun! All three of these things happened throughout the week! There were many smiling faces!
A big thank you to Mr Wood, Mrs Baker, Mrs Driscoll, Mr Lewis, Mr Thomas, Miss Mann, Mr Dawson, Mrs Lapointe, Miss Carruthers and Mrs Choy for coming on camp and for being willing to give up time away from home with your families to be there. Without you, it would not have been possible!
