2017 Chile Mission - Update 1

2017 04 13 chile mission update1 web 01Day 2 saw us head to Colegio Jacques Cousteau for a Futsal tournament against an amazing group of Chilean students. The trophy went to the Colegio students, who won two matches 4-3 and 3-1. We were lucky to scrape through with a 3-3 draw in the third match.

Victor, a Word of Life minister, shared an amazing visual presentation, painting a depiction of the salvation gospel to the students and staff of the school. Many students responded and were given tracts containing Scriptures and were then encouraged by Pacific Hills students.

A local Church pastor, Gonzalo, hosted the boys for a lunch in his home church. It was an amazing time of fellowship, where he encouraged the boys in their faith.

We then headed to play an outdoor match against a team of Football Academy students (coached by an ex-professional Chilean player) in the afternoon. We levelled the score at 4-4 at half time, and went to a penalty shoot-out with a 5-5 score at full time. The Chileans again took the trophy, defeating us 5-5 (5-4). During the half-time break, Word of Life again shared their visual presentation of the gospel, where more than forty of the students gave their lives to Christ. Following the match, the Academy coach shared his testimony, which was such a blessing to the boys.

With all that has happened in our first day of ministering to the community, we are so expectant for everything that God has ahead of us on our trip.

Day 3 - The Impact of a Simple Gift

Today we visited a school with students at risk. We played football with them as a means of connecting with them, through which we were then able to share the gospel.

During the games, some of the boys handed out the football boots donated to the Mission team at the school fair. The impact of this generous donation was profound, with one of the students responding that "this is only the second pair of shoes he has ever owned". This simple gift helped engage the students with Victor's message, which explained the greatest gift of all - God's unconditional love expressed through Jesus' life and death on the cross.

What a joy and privilege it was to witness so many decisions made by students, staff and the Principal to accept Jesus as their Lord and Saviour.
