China, Hong Kong & Macau Mission Update

2016 10 01 china hong kong macau web 10Wednesday 28 September 2016 - We have arrived!!
After a long day full of lengthy flights and a lack of leg room we arrived in Beijing. It was fantastic to arrive and see the welcoming face of our hosts here.

Tuesday was a full first day of mission in action. The morning was spent sightseeing at the Summer Palace. This was our first opportunity as a team to spend time together our and about in Beijing. Our afternoon was spent at a local high school where we were welcomed and invited to share in several classes. This was a fantastic opportunity for our team and was our first school visit for the trip.

The boys were split into two groups and joined in with various lessons. These allowed us to gain more insight into the schooling system, to help local students with their English and also to build relationships. These relationships are key to our time here as the provide a platform for sharing our own personal stories.

Each day the team meets together for devotions. During each of these times a member of the team will share their own story and encouragement from the Bible, as well as joining together in worship. Our music team is able to lead us in worship each day which serves as an encouragement to each other.

Please continue to be praying for us for our time here. Particularly for us as we get used to living in a different culture, in constant community, and for safety as we travel. Pray that opportunities would come to share the Good News and that we each would take up those opportunities.

Five days in Beijing now comes to a close. As we drive to the airport for our flight to Hong Kong there is a sense of both thankfulness and weariness.

Throughout our time in Beijing we were able to see Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace and the Great Wall of China. Walking through the streets experiencing the sights, smells and sounds which were all new for the majority of the team was both exciting and challenging at the same time. To be able to walk on such historically significant sites was both an honour and privilege.

More importantly we were blessed to be able to bless the schools and groups we visited.

The first competitive games were played at the International School of Beijing against an organisation called Sports Beijing. After climbing the Great Wall, and then playing back to back games of basketball and football the boys were well and truly exhausted. Special mention to Cooper, Austyn, Aidan and Will J who all played both games. This time was a fantastic opportunity to connect and build relationships.

Our time at A+ Academy was a fantastic time. A small Christian school where we were able to play games, sing songs, run sports activities and teach about Australia with the children. As a part of this visit we went to a local migrant school. This was an eye opener for the boys as it was in a lower socioeconomic part of the city. However, despite the difference in income the faces of children lit up with joy when we arrived. To be able to love the children genuinely was something that we again took delight to humbly do. A+ also provided the first performance time for the music team. As they stood and played and sang they publicly declared the love that He had for us.

We were also able to join with a group called Young Life. This was a fantastic opportunity to build relationships with local teenagers. We spent time over a meal together, shopping and then finished off he evening with eating pigs brains! Local ministries like this one are effective in building relationships and through them sharing the Good News.

Throughout the whole team there is an underlining sense of joy and thankfulness for the relationships we have made and people we have met. Underneath the tired faces we are celebrating for the goodness from Him who provides. The overall purpose of the trip to build relationships through sport and music and then to share the gospel is one which is at the heart of the whole team.
